We've always been huge fans of Frida Kahlo! When we heard that her clothing was going to be shown, we were thrilled! We truly admire her spirit, talent and unique fashion sensibility that still inspires so many today.
Almost six decades after her death, the closet of Frida Kahlo has been opened and is on display at the Casa Azul, Frida Kahlo Museum in Mexico City in an exhibit titled Appearances Can Be Deceiving: The Dresses of Frida Kahlo.
Her treasures remained hidden partially because her husband, Diego Rivera was so concerned that anyone who entered her closet would ruin what was inside. Untouched till 2002, when museum curators opened it, there were over 300 items including love letters, photographs, perfumes, boots and jewels. Her colorful embroidered skirts, floral headpieces and jewelry were heavily inspired by her Mexican heritage. In addition, much of Frieda's clothing still had traces of her paint, her cigarettes and perfume!
We're hoping to plan a trip so we can get to experience a part of this amazing woman's life!
